LEVITICUS 20:13
|
The problem with your website is that the reason the nice people at WBC are homophobic is because they adhere strongly to their beliefs--enough so that they deny any rational thought on the homosexuality. They even are nice enough to cite several very clear verses in the Bible which explain show why they're against homosexuality, such as Leviticus 20:13 which says, "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads" (NIV). All they're doing is holding the presumption that the Bible was inspired by God, something most Christians claim to believe. Unlike other Christians, they just aren't as hypocritical. This is a bad thing of course, but they do remind us that if Christianity becomes too powerful what the results could be. After all, non-Christians are supposed to suffer damnation anyways (Mark 16:16) and if they can't be converted, why would they matter?
On a more off-topic note, if you think Godhatesfags.com is bad, why not check out ChristianParty.net, which has been getting a lot of visitors lately.

JEFF SWENSON RESPONDS:
Well, I wouldn't say there's a problem with my site because I don't adhere to Christianity myself. My site is satirical. I think I've noted several times that the Bible cannot be made into a love and peace type book simply because modern times insist that it be. But Christianity as a religion can be liberalized and the Bible can be reinterpreted to match the new theology. Most religions have done this whether they would like to admit it or not. Religion has nothing to do with actual truth, but rather belief. If liberal Christians want to believe that God loves Gays and that their scriptures are being misinterpreted by literalists I could honestly care less. I'm an atheist. I think it's all nonsense.
The main reason I would support Liberal Theology though, is that it is necessary for those who cannot live without God. It may even be a stepping stone to atheism. There are some people who have to have a supernatural justification to live a good life. I personally use reason to determine what a good life is including respecting and tolerating others. If someone else needs God to tell them to be good as well as tolerant of other lifestyles then that's fine by me too.
When it comes to a debate on the Bible, then yes, I prefer the literalist. A liberal theologian is impossible to nail down because there's nothing to argue about except possibly the existence of God himself. If you don't take the Bible literally then where is the contention? The liberal theologian may use the Bible as analogies for moral living--I have no problems with that--but that can be done with any mythology. You can do the same with Aesop's Fables for example or the Greek myths.
I checked out ChristianParty.net . Just another holocaust denying site, among other things. I can't take anyone seriously who denies the Holocaust. There may be some factual discrepancies as to the specifics about how the Holocaust happened but you're an idiot if you think somebody faked this horror. And why is it that all of these hate sites have the worst graphics and site design? Their 3D titles look like a throwback to the early nineties. At least Phelps got his act together with his site.
