MAIN MISSION COMICS LETTERS BLOG LINKS

Have you come across a great article we can link to on this site, or have you written an interesting article that you'd like to submit? Topics should be related to homophobia (past, present and future) and enlightening straight people like myself, the webmaster, on gay issues that will have an impact on society, religion and heterosexuals. Humorous insight is definitely welcomed but serious research is fine also. Send in your ideas to:

The copyright on any submitted articles will be retained by the author. I'm only interested in permission to post the article on this site.

Want to send feedback about this site, good or bad. We'll probably post it regardless if it comes from a homophobe, homosexual, or a reasonable hetero. Just e-mail the webmaster jeff@the-cynic.com

ARTICLES
POSTED 05/09/04 Narth's opinion on Dr. Phil and homosexuality. I just found this site and they seem to make the point that homosexuality is a learned behavior. Narth stands for: National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality. They appear to be fair and balanced but it looks like there is an underlying agenda. I would honestly say that a majority of homosexuals are born the way they are and some may have chosen homosexuality through sexual experimentation. Just because a few college girls chose to be lesbians doesn't mean it extends to every gay person.

POSTED 05/09/04 And here is one more article from NARTH on homosexuality and animals. This one concludes that homosexuality to the exclusion of heterosexuality does not exist in the animal kingdom. They're probably right. Bisexuality might be a better way to describe the lifestyle of some of these animals (but they don't say that). It also concludes that human nature cannot be studied by observing certain animal behaviors--there's room for debate there. But the overall conclusion of the article is that homosexual behavior is unnatural because you cannot prove homosexuality is natural by referring to instances in the animal kingdom. It then compares homosexual behavior literally to cannibalism as an exception to normal animal behavior. As always homophobes have to jump to extremes.
I personally would not say that animal behavior is conclusive proof of anything in regards to human behavior, but can provide clues to how we evolved. Now the argument for homosexual animal behavior simply indicates that possibly God (if you believe in God) made these creatures and unless they too are sinners they seem to like gay sex on occasion--which is natural to them. Maybe homosexual activity evolved in humans for a variety of reasons and homosexual orientation (gay sex exclusively) is unique among homosapiens. But again, that would not make it unnatural. It's only unnatural if the intention is to procreate but maybe homosexuality evolved purely for pleasure or bonding to the point of exclusion of the other gender? Fact is, humans do a lot of things that are "unnatural" like currently allowing their "women" not to have babies by using birth control. What woman with "natural instinct" would not want to have sex without getting pregnant? Or does she just want to bond with her mate (or get her kicks and ditch the guy).
Okay, I'll stop here but you can see where I'm going with this. Humans are unique and what "natural" is to us can be up for debate. We often defy our natural selves for the sake of reason and a civilized society--and we often defy instinctive, natural procreation for the sake of pleasure, including a majority of religious fundamentalists.

POSTED 03/20/04 It's interesting that within "African American" culture there is black homophobia. Essentially if a black man is gay it is because of a white European mindset and he is a traitor to his race, according to black homophobes that is. Read more here

POSTED 03/20/04 This personal story of black homophobia by a black man blew me away. You wouldn't think black people could be discriminatory like this considering the lessons of the past. Read "Black VS. Gay."

POSTED 03/20/04 Forgive me, but here is one more general article on black homophobia. Apparently it is a bigger problem than I had imagined. Homophobia in the Black Community

POSTED 03/20/04 Again, in the fairness of open debate here is an article I disagree with against Gay marriage. One of its tenets is that gay marriage doesn't benefit society, but it neglects to mention that part of our society is gay. What the article is really saying is that gay marriage doesn't benefit heterosexuals so why should we allow it? Read "Gay Marriage, the worst idea since New Coke"
One of our visitors to the site wrote a response to the author of the New Coke editorial and forwarded it to us. Read what he has to say.

POSTED 03/06/04 Here is an excellent article with resource links that refutes the major arguments against gay marriage and then shows what may be the beneficial aspects of Gay Marriage.
Gay Marriage: The arguments and the motives

POSTED 03/06/04 If homosexuality is a sinful choice then why do we find it happening in other species?
The natural crime against nature

POSTED 03/03/04 In the name of fair debate here is an article I disagree with. Using your ability to reason, try to figure out where the author has gone wrong.
Opposition to gay marriage is not discrimination

POSTED 02/22/04 This is an extremely interesting article about how BYU (Brigham Young University) has treated homosexuals. For those of you who don't know, BYU is Mormon owned and operated. A History of Homosexuality at Brigham Young University

POSTED 02/22/04 Just for laughs, this has to be the most retarded review of a movie I've ever read. A mixture of homophobia, a jab at Rob Halford of Judas Priest fame, and hate for Mark Wahlberg because he shows off his body.
ROCK STAR, MOVIE REVIEW

POSTED 02/22/04 And for no real reason, here's a list of famous homosexuals, some good, some bad, some questionable as to their legitimacy: FAMOUS HOMOSEXUALS

POSTED 02/16/04 INTERESTING PRESS RELEASE: See how a drinking establishment used Pastor Fred Phelps to raise money for a gay advocacy group. Very clever.

POSTED 02/16/04 I found this article interesting since I used to listen to this underappreciated band quite a bit:
CHRISTIAN ROCKER COMES OUT OF THE CLOSET

POSTED 02/07/04 And for those who've seen "LEFT BEHIND," the movie with Kirk Cameron, check out this article about the homophobic author of the original book.

If you haven't already read it, this is a revealing look at the dark world of who Pastor Fred Phelps is.
